The bus fleet is powered by clean hydrogen and electric energy.

Abu Dhabi's transport authority has introduced the Green Bus service as part of the emirate's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. The bus fleet, which operates on Route 65 between Marina Mall and Shams Boutik in Al Reem Island, is powered by clean hydrogen and electric energy.

The initiative marks a milestone in the Green Bus Programme, developed by Abu Dhabi Mobility, which seeks to transform the emirate into a public transport green zone by the year 2030. The objective of the Green Bus Programme is to evaluate and select the suitable technologies and solutions in hydrogen and electric power and to deliver these options to commuters. The assessment period for the Green Bus Programme will conclude in June 2025. Bus operators will participate in theoretical and practical training sessions for the green buses.

As the public bus fleet transitions from diesel fuel to renewable energy in Abu Dhabi, it is anticipated that annual carbon dioxide emissions in the emirate will be reduced by more than 100,000 metric tonnes in the future.
