The Abu Dhabi Police unveiled a next-generation autonomous patrol vehicle at the GITEX Global 2024 on Monday. The initiative, in partnership with the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, is part of the force's strategy to integrate advanced technology to boost road safety.
The latest autonomous patrol vehicle is designed to improve security coverage, particularly in residential areas and off-road environments. According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office report, the patrol vehicle facilitates remote operational capabilities using integrated wireless communication that links with surveillance drones. Additionally, the vehicle is also equipped with AI technologies that enable it to process voice, data, video, and behaviour monitoring. The vehicle also features a fully reconfigurable internal structure that can be adapted to suit a variety of operational needs.
Khaleej Times, citing officials, reported that the MK1 prototype is currently in development, and it remains unclear when it will be officially deployed. The report also mentioned that the patrol vehicle has the ability to control traffic lights, allowing officers to change red lights to green during high-speed pursuits.
