The 33-year-old made 137 appearances for his country and was a central part of France’s World Cup triumph in 2018.

French attacking midfielder Antoine Griezmann has announced his retirement from international football. The 33-year-old made 137 appearances for his country and was a central part of France’s World Cup triumph in 2018. Griezmann scored 44 times for the national side, which is only the fourth-most for France.

"It is with a heart full of memories that I close this chapter of my life. Thank you for this magnificent tricolor adventure and see you soon," the French superstar wrote in a post on X on Monday. Griezmann played a major role for France at tournaments as he was asked to play a deeper role in midfield. His greatest moment on the national-team stage came at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where France were crowned world champions for the first time since 1998.

Antoine Griezmann played a French record of 84 consecutive matches with Les Bleus, a number that highlights his status as the national team's most valuable player of the past 10 years. Griezmann, who won the Golden Boot at Euro 2016, is now fully focused on his club career at La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.
