In January, the previous administration, led by Rishi Sunak, first declared that disposable vapes would be prohibited.

The British government is set to ban the sale and use of single-use disposable vapes in the country from June next year. Britain is making this crucial move to combat environmental damage from single-use vapes and their widespread use by children. In January, the previous administration, led by Rishi Sunak, first declared that disposable vapes would be prohibited. However, it was not implemented before the July election.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) reportedly confirmed that the legislation had been laid out in the UK parliament. It is to be noted that it is already illegal to sell any vape to young people under the age of 18 in the UK. However, there are concerns that disposable vapes, which are often sold in smaller and colorful packaging, play a big role in the rise in young people vaping, reported the BBC. Vapes are small devices that hold a liquid containing nicotine as well as other harmful chemicals.

The governments in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are also planning to launch similar bans on disposable vapes. According to Defra, vape usage in England had surged by more than 400% between 2012 and 2023, with 9.1% of the British public now buying and using the products.
