Dubai Exhibition Centre is set to become the largest purpose-built indoor events and exhibition venue in the region

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, has approved an AED10 billion expansion plan for the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) at Expo City Dubai. Notably, the Dubai Exhibition Centre is set to become the largest purpose-built indoor events and exhibition venue in the region. The expansion is part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

The DEC master plan highlights the expansion of the venue in three key phases. In the initial phase, the Dubai Exhibition Centre will feature 140,000 square metres of exhibition space and is set to completion by 2026. In Phase 2, which is expected to be completed by 2028, the total exhibition space will be expanded to nearly 160,000 square metres, along with enhancements to supporting infrastructure and road networks. The third phase will increase the total indoor exhibition space to 180,000 square metres. The final stage is expected to be completed by 2031.

Once these expansions are complete, the DEC will be 1.5 times larger than the current Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The emirate will be able to hold twice as many large-scale events each year with this expansion, going from about 300 to over 600 by 2033.
