The newly proposed track, set to link Al Sufouh to Dubai Hills via Hessa Street, will feature two architecturally innovative bridges crossing over Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road

Under the directives of Sheikh Hamdan, the Crown Prince of Dubai and the Chairman of the Executive Council, to transform Dubai into a bicycle-friendly city, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled plans to construct a 13.5 kilometre track tailored for bicycles, scooters, and pedestrians. This initiative aims to create an environment that encourages people to practice cycling sports and promotes sustainable transportation options.

The newly proposed track, set to link Al Sufouh to Dubai Hills via Hessa Street, will feature two architecturally innovative bridges crossing over Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, announced Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority. This track, designated for cyclists, scooter riders, and pedestrians, is part of the Hessa Street Improvement Project currently undertaken by RTA, added Mattar Al Tayer. Spanning 4.5 km between the intersections with Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, the project encompasses upgrades to four major intersections along Hessa Street.

The multi-use track measures 4.5 meters in width, with a 2.5-meter-wide track for cyclists and scooter riders and a 2-meter-wide track for pedestrians. It is designed to improve connectivity for first and last-mile trips, serving 12 diverse residential, commercial, and educational areas, including vibrant neighborhoods like Al Barsha and Al Barsha Heights. The capacity of the track is estimated at 5,200 users per hour. Highlighting the unique features of the track, Al Tayer explained, "The new track features two uniquely designed bridges: the first spans 528 meters over Sheikh Zayed Road, and the second stretches 501 meters over Al Khail Road."

The Hessa Street Improvement Project, which is integral to the bicycle track initiative, caters to several key residential and developmental communities such as Al Sufouh 2, Al Barsha, and Jumeirah Village Circle. By 2030, it is anticipated that the population served by this project will surpass 640,000. The project is set to double the capacity of Hessa Street by 100%, accommodating 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. Four main intersections along Hessa Street will undergo improvements as part of the project. These include the Sheikh Zayed Road Intersection, the First Al Khail Street Intersection, the Al Asayel Street Intersection, and the Al Khail Road Intersection. These upgrades aim to enhance traffic flow and improve accessibility within the city. With these ambitious plans, Dubai is solidifying its commitment to sustainable urban development and promoting alternative modes of transportation.
