Dubai's Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project: RTA Announces Significant Progress

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a significant advancement in the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, marking the completion of 45% of works in the first contract of Phase 4. This ambitious initiative, guided by the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and overseen by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aims to revolutionize traffic flow, capacity, and safety along the vital 13-kilometer corridor encompassing Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street.

By the year 2030, the project aims to slash travel times from 104 minutes to a mere 16 minutes, benefiting approximately one million individuals. One of the notable features of the ongoing development is the construction of the Al Khaleej Street Tunnel, spanning 1650 meters with three lanes in each direction, facilitating smooth traffic flow between the Infinity Bridge and Deira and accommodating up to 12,000 vehicles per hour.

Currently, the project entails the construction of three pivotal bridges, totaling 3.1 kilometers in length, with a combined capacity of 19,400 vehicles per hour. The first bridge, spanning 1335 meters, facilitates seamless traffic flow between Sheikh Rashid Road and the Falcon Intersection, accommodating up to 10,800 vehicles per hour. The second bridge, stretching 780 meters, caters to traffic heading from the Falcon Intersection to Al Wasl Road, serving 5400 vehicles per hour. Lastly, the third bridge, spanning 985 meters, accommodates traffic from Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street, with a capacity of 3200 vehicles per hour.

The construction encompasses a variety of projects beyond just bridge construction. These include the development of 4.8 kilometers of new roads, enhancements to intersections along important routes like Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street, as well as the construction of two pedestrian bridges on Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mina Street. Additionally, the project involves the installation of street lighting, advanced traffic systems, and rainwater drainage and irrigation systems, all aimed at improving the overall infrastructure and transportation network.

The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project stands as one of RTA's most expansive endeavors, comprising 15 intersection enhancements along a 13-kilometer stretch. Recognizing its magnitude, the project has been segmented into five phases. Serving as a lifeline for residents and businesses in Deira, Bur Dubai, as well as prominent development projects like Dubai Islands, Dubai Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Mina Rashid, the project's impact is expected to be transformative.

RTA has already achieved significant milestones in the Al Shindagha Corridor, including the completion of several intersections and bridges, such as the Infinity Bridge and the Falcon Intersection Improvement Project, which introduced two bridges on Al Khaleej Street with a combined capacity of 24,000 vehicles per hour. With the completion of 45% of the works, the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project marches forward, promising a future where Dubai's roads are safer, more efficient, and capable of meeting the demands of its burgeoning economy.
