Excise Policy Case: Supreme Court Grants Interim Bail To Arvind Kejriwal

The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi excise case. However, the AAP leader will remain in Tihar jail since he is in custody in the case initiated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, noted that certain legal questions raised by the Delhi CM in his plea challenging his arrest need to be considered by a larger bench. "Given that right to life is concerned and since matter is referred to larger bench, we direct Arvind Kejriwal to be released on interim bail," the apex court ordered, as quoted by Bar and Bench. The Bench had earlier granted interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal till June 1 for the Lok Sabha election campaign, and he returned to jail after his bail period got over.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the probe agency on March 21. Meanwhile, the AAP leader has reportedly moved the Delhi High Court seeking bail in the CBI case, which is expected to be heard by the court on July 17.
