Jeddah: Jeddah's Historic Jeddah Program has announced the successful completion of a project aimed at strengthening and preserving 56 buildings on the brink of collapse in Historic Jeddah. These structures, holding significant architectural and heritage value, have been saved with the generous support of Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who allocated 50 million riyals from his own expenses to contribute to the preservation of the Kingdom's historical and cultural treasures.

This initiative aligns with the Crown Prince's commitment to safeguarding and rehabilitating historical sites, aiming to fulfill the objectives of Vision 2030 and showcase the Arab and Islamic heritage deeply rooted in the Kingdom. The project focused on highlighting the heritage landmarks found throughout the historic Jeddah region, which boasts over 600 heritage buildings, 36 historical mosques, and five major historical markets. Additionally, ancient corridors, squares, and sites rich in historical significance, such as the revitalized old waterfront, known as a crucial route for pilgrims, will serve as a platform to narrate the remarkable story of Hajj since the early days of Islam for visitors to Historic Jeddah.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman's vision prompted the implementation of the project by specialized Saudi companies, with national support. Five Saudi companies were entrusted with the project, conducting extensive studies and carrying out preservation works under the supervision of experienced technicians knowledgeable in historical buildings. The implementation adhered to an urban design that honors the distinct character of Historic Jeddah and its exceptional architectural elements. In particular, several buildings, belonging to Jeddah families, boast archaeological landmarks dating back over 500 years.

This significant undertaking affirms the commitment of the Historic Jeddah Program and Prince Mohammed bin Salman to preserve and protect the invaluable historical heritage of Jeddah, contributing to the realization of Vision 2030's cultural goals.
