Microsoft-backed OpenAI has finally made entry into the search market. SearchGPT, OpenAI's AI-powered search engine, is mainly designed to compete against traditional platforms, including Google. The new search tool aims to provide users with real-time access to information across the internet. OpenAI also plans to integrate certain features of SearchGPT into ChatGPT in the future.

The company mentioned in a blog post that SearchGPT will "quickly and directly" respond to questions with up-to-date information from the web while giving the user clear links to relevant sources. It is worth mentioning that users will be able to ask follow-up questions, just like in a conversation with a person, with the shared context building with each query. At the same time, SearchGPT is a temporary prototype, and it is initially available only to a few users and publishers.

OpenAI also said that SearchGPT is designed to help users connect with publishers by prominently citing and linking to them in searches. "Responses have clear, in-line, named attribution and links so users know where information is coming from and can quickly engage with even more results in a sidebar with source links," added the company in the post. The ChatGPT maker also introduced a way for publishers to manage how they appear in SearchGPT.
