Meta Introduces Augmented Reality Glasses Prototype ‘Orion’

Meta has unveiled a prototype for lightweight augmented reality glasses dubbed Orion. Meta claims that the Orion, previously codenamed Project Nazare, is the most advanced pair of AR glasses ever made. The company introduced the AR glasses at its annual Connect conference on Wednesday. The glasses have the ability to project digital representations of media, people, games, and communications on to the real world.
Meta's move comes as the competition among the tech giants to build the next computing platform intensifies. According to the company, the glasses have the capacity to overlay 2D and 3D content over the real world with the help of holographic displays. "While Orion won’t make its way into the hands of consumers, make no mistake: this is not a research prototype. It’s one of the most polished product prototypes we’ve ever developed," said Meta in the blog post.
During the event, Meta also introduced an affordable Quest 3S mixed reality headset, which will be offered in two storage capacity sizes. The headset is set to hit the shelves on October 15. Additionally, the company also unveiled new voice capabilities in the Meta AI chatbot. Meta AI will support voice, with an option to choose celebrity voices such as those of John Cena and Judi Dench.
