Poland PM said that he would present the new migration policy at a government meeting on October 15

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk recently announced that the country is set to temporarily suspend the right to asylum as part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing irregular migration. During a meeting of the governing Civic Coalition party, Donald Tusk said that the right to asylum was being used by the Belarusian President, the Russian President, and by people smugglers in a way that goes against the essence of the right to asylum.

“One of the elements of the migration strategy will be the temporary territorial suspension of the right to asylum,” said the Polish PM, as quoted by the BBC. Donald Tusk also said that he would present the new migration policy at a government meeting on October 15. “Poland must take back 100% control over who comes to Poland,” Tusk added.

As per the report, the country has witnessed a huge increase in the number of people since 2021, mainly from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, crossing into the country illegally from Belarus. Since then, migration has been high on the agenda in Poland. Meanwhile, Donald Tusk has taken a tough policy towards migration since taking office in December 2023.
