Heavy rains that began on Monday caused floods that have destroyed bridges, and the streets were cluttered with damaged vehicles and the area thick with mud.

The death toll from the flash floods in Spain has climbed to at least 205 people. Most fatalities were reported in the Valencia region. However, reports suggest that the death toll is expected to rise. It is the worst flooding disaster Spain has witnessed in recent history.

Heavy rains that began on Monday caused floods that have destroyed bridges, and the streets were cluttered with damaged vehicles and the area thick with mud. Nearly 1,700 soldiers are working on search and rescue operations in the Valencia region. Meanwhile, the administration has deployed an additional 500 soldiers to the Valencia region as residents criticise local authorities over their response to the flooding, reported the BBC. The flash floods caused widespread disruption to public services and left roads unusable.

Thousands of volunteers are also part of the rescue and clean-up operation. Pumping water out of underground tunnels and parking lots is one of the main priorities, as it is feared that individuals may have been trapped when the water surged in. Pedro Sanchez, Spain's Prime Minister, has vowed to do whatever it takes to help those affected by the disaster.
