Several popular leaders of Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party lost their seats

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's Conservative Party has witnessed a historic defeat in the UK general elections. With nearly all results declared, the Labour Party is likely to form the next government in the UK with a significant majority. Keir Starmer, who led the Labour Party, will take over from Rishi Sunak as the UK's prime minister.

Rishi Sunak reportedly said that the people had delivered a "sobering verdict" and added that he took personal responsibility for the defeat. “The British people have delivered a sobering verdict tonight. There is much to learn and reflect on, and I take responsibility for the loss,” Rishi Sunak said, as quoted by CNN. Rishi Sunak also said that he had called Keir Starmer to congratulate him. Earlier, various opinion polls also predicted a landslide victory for the Labour Party.

Meanwhile, the outgoing British prime minister will remain a lawmaker, as he took 47.5 percent of the vote in his constituency of Richmond and Northallerton in northern England. However, several popular leaders of Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party lost their seats. Former prime minister Liz Truss has lost her seat in the Labour Party's election victory.
