US Election: JD Vance Named As Republican Nominee For Vice President

“I’m a ‘never Trump’ guy. I never liked him.” This is the statement made by JD Vance during an interview in 2016. Eight years later, Donald Trump selected JD Vance as the Republican nominee for vice president. The former US president announced his choice on social media ahead of the Republican National Convention. At the same time, Donald Trump has also been officially nominated as the Republican Party’s presidential nominee for the upcoming election.
During the 2016 presidential election, JD Vance was a strong critic of Donald Trump. JD Vance, the first-term senator from Ohio, also reportedly compared Trump to Adolf Hitler. But in recent years, Vance has undergone a dramatic transformation and has emerged as a Trump loyalist in American politics. 39-year-old James David Vance is a Marine Corps veteran and has also served in Iraq. He graduated from Ohio State University and Yale Law School. Vance also wrote a bestselling book, Hillbilly Elegy, which was later turned into a Netflix movie.
JD Vance was elected to the US Senate in 2022. According to The Guardian, Vance has been a leading opponent of US aid to Ukraine, as he says that defence against China should be a much bigger priority. “I don’t really care what happens to Ukraine one way or the other," the Republican nominee said in an interview earlier this year, as quoted by The Guardian. Vance, who turns 40 in August, would be one of the youngest vice presidents in the history of the United States if elected.
