50% Reduction in Saudi Traffic Fines Begins Implementation
RIYADH — In a significant move aimed at easing financial burdens, the General Directorate of Traffic has commenced the implementation of a royal directive mandating a 50% reduction in accumulated traffic fines. The reduction, which took effect on Thursday, April 18, aligns with the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Salman.
This landmark initiative applies to all violations committed prior to April 18, 2024. To benefit from this reduction, individuals must settle all accumulated traffic fines within six months, from April 18 to October 18, 2024. The discount allows for the payment of fines in a lump sum or separately for each violation.
The primary objective of this initiative is to alleviate financial burdens for citizens, expatriates, visitors, and GCC nationals. It aims to reduce penalties for all recorded violations up until the day before the reduction period begins.
However, individuals committing specific violations during the reduction period will not be eligible for the discount. These violations include drifting, driving under the influence of drugs or banned substances, exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h on roads with a speed limit of 120 km/h, or by more than 30 km/h on roads with a speed limit of 140 km/h.
According to the royal decree enacted by the Ministry of Interior, Article 75 of the Traffic Law will apply to violations committed from April 18 onwards. This article offers a 25% reduction on single violations. It further mandates imprisonment and enforcement for those who fail to pay fines after the objection period and the legally stipulated payment deadline have expired.
To facilitate the payment of traffic violations, the SADAD payment system and the Efaa platform will handle transactions automatically. Authorities, however, caution against dealing with any suspicious links, phone calls, or websites that claim to provide such services.
With the implementation of this reduction in traffic fines, individuals in Saudi Arabia can find relief from the financial strain caused by accumulated penalties. This initiative reflects the government's commitment to supporting individuals and promoting road safety in the country. For further information and payment procedures, individuals are encouraged to utilize official and trusted platforms to ensure a smooth and secure process.
