Delhi High Court Directs Baba Ramdev To Remove Claim Blaming Allopathy For COVID Deaths
The court reportedly directed Baba Ramdev to remove the offending content from social media within three days.
The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered Baba Ramdev to take down his statement claiming that allopathy was responsible for deaths of lakhs of people in COVID-19 and that Patanjali's Coronil is a “cure” for the virus. The court reportedly directed Baba Ramdev to remove the offending content from social media within three days.
"I have directed the defendants to take down certain tweets in three days, if they fail to do it, the social media intermediaries will take down the content," the court said, as quoted by Bar and Bench. As per the report, Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani passed the interim order restraining Baba Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna, and Patanjali Ayurveda from making such allegations.
The Delhi HC passed this order in the interim injunction application moved in a suit filed in 2021 by several doctors' associations, including the Resident Doctors Association of All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Rishikesh, Patna, and Bhubaneswar. The doctors' associations alleged that Baba Ramdev was causing misrepresentation to the public by spreading misinformation. The doctors reportedly argued that the misleading claims sowed doubts in the public's mind about the safety of allopathic treatments.
