Hemanth Soren To Take Oath As Jharkhand CM Today
Hemanth Soren was released from jail on June 28 following bail granted by the Jharkhand High Court
Hemanth Soren will be sworn in as Chief Minister of Jharkhand today. Jharkhand Governor C P Radhakrishnan has invited the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader to form the government in the state. This comes a day after Champai Soren stepped down as Chief Minister.
“The Governor has invited us to form the government and take the oath,” said party general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya, as quoted by Hindustan Times. Champai Soren, a popular leader in the Kolhan region, took charge of the JMM-Congress-RJD coalition government on February 2 after the Enforcement Directorate arrested Hemanth Soren on money laundering charges in connection with an alleged land scam.
Hemanth Soren was released from jail on June 28 following bail granted by the Jharkhand High Court. On Wednesday, the JMM-led alliance elected Hemant Soren, son of JMM supremo Shibu Soren, as the legislature party leader. At the same time, elections to the 81-member Jharkhand legislative assembly are scheduled to be held later this year.
