Here's Why The Guardian Quit Elon Musk's X
The Guardian said that X users will still be able to share the articles
British news outlet The Guardian announced on Wednesday that it will no longer post its content under its official account on X. The news outlet, which has 10.8 million followers on X, stated that "X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse."
"We think that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives and that resources could be better used promoting our journalism elsewhere," said The Guardian in an editorial published on its website. At the same time, The Guardian also said that X users will still be able to share the articles, and it was likely to continue to embed X posts in its coverage of world events. It also added that reporters will also be able to carry on using the site for news-gathering purposes.
"This is something we have been considering for a while given the often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism," the news organisation said. The Guardian is the first major UK news outlet to leave the platform since billionaire Elon Musk acquired it in 2022 for 44 billion dollars.
