KSrelief Launches $45 Million Humanitarian Initiatives to Support Somalia

Mogadishu, Somalia: Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Supervisor General of KSrelief, announced that the Somali government's extensive efforts to alleviate humanitarian crises have gained steadfast support from KSrelief. The organization has initiated a comprehensive range of humanitarian projects, totaling $45 million. These initiatives symbolize the strong bonds between Saudi Arabia and Somalia.

Key partners collaborating on these projects include the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA), International Society for the Care of War Victims and Disasters, Regional Mission of OIC, Somali Ministry of Health, Zamzam Foundation, Al Wafa International Foundation, Norwegian Refugee Council, World Food Programme (WFP), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Social Solidarity Association, and Rahmah Charity Society.

The funded educational projects encompass various initiatives, such as providing vocational training at the Buroa Technical Institute for up to 5000 individuals, distributing stationery kits to 30,000 underprivileged school children, and renovating and building capacity for 13 primary and secondary schools through a joint initiative with the Regional Mission of OIC. These efforts aim to benefit over 5,000 children and teachers.

In the healthcare sector, the projects include a WHO joint initiative to increase access to medical supplies to reduce child deaths from pneumonia, a UNFPA joint initiative to reduce maternal and adolescent mortality rates and alleviate suffering from obstetric fistula in women, and an initiative by the International Society for the Care of War Victims and Disasters to provide kidney dialysis services. Additionally, KSrelief will deliver 15 ambulance vehicles to the Somali Ministry of Health, while the Regional Mission of OIC will support the rehabilitation of Afgooye Hospital and Beerdheere Health Center.

Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects will be implemented in partnership with the Zamzam Foundation, Al Wafa International Foundation, and the Norwegian Refugee Council. These initiatives aim to provide safe drinking water sources, rehabilitate wells, and utilize solar power for water operations.

To address food security and other areas of assistance, KSrelief plans to distribute 67,985 food baskets based on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, in addition to a joint initiative with the WFP and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) to distribute $2 million in food aid cards. Volunteer programs will also focus on providing medical assistance to visually impaired individuals, addressing stigma and discrimination against disabled people, and offering shelter materials and clothing kits to displaced individuals in Somali camps.

The collaborative efforts between KSrelief and its partners reflect their commitment to supporting Somalia and uplifting communities affected by humanitarian crises.
