Pep Guardiola Signs Two-Year Contract Extension With Manchester City
The 53-year-old Spaniard's decision means he will celebrate 10 years at the club in 2026, having arrived from Bayern Munich in 2016.
Pep Guardiola has signed a new two-year contract extension with Manchester City. The 53-year-old Spaniard's decision means he will celebrate 10 years at the club in 2026, having arrived from Bayern Munich in 2016. Notably, Guardiola has so far won 18 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League.
Guardiola signed the new deal on the back of defeats to Tottenham, Brighton, Sporting, and Bournemouth. “I felt I could not leave now, simple as that,” he said after signing the new deal. “Don’t ask me the reason why. Maybe the four defeats were the reason why and I felt I cannot leave. I felt the club still want me or had the fact that we were together and that’s the reason why we sign,” the Manchester City manager added.
Under Pep Guardiola's stewardship, the club became the first team in Premier League history to manage 100 points in a single season (2017/18) and the first in English football to win all four domestic trophies (2018/19). Guardiola also led City to a magnificent Treble of Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in the same season.
