"This Is About Age": George Clooney Asks Biden To Quit Presidential Race
The actor was one of the recent celebrities to speak out against Biden
Renowned Hollywood actor George Clooney has urged Joe Biden to drop out of the upcoming US presidential election. George Clooney, also a prominent Democratic fundraiser, said that Biden was not the same man he was in 2020. The actor was one of the recent celebrities to speak out against Biden.
In a New York Times opinion piece, George Clooney noted that he loves Biden, but the party would lose the presidential election with him as the nominee. "This is about age. Nothing more. But also nothing that can be reversed. We are not going to win in November with this president. On top of that, we won’t win the House, and we’re going to lose the Senate," Clooney wrote. The high-profile Biden supporter also added that this is the opinion of every senator and congress member that he has spoken with in private.
"We can put our heads in the sand and pray for a miracle in November, or we can speak the truth," said George Clooney, who recently co-hosted a star-studded fundraiser for Biden that raised $30 million. Filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner also supported George Clooney's opinion and emphasized the need for a younger leader to take on Donald Trump. "We acknowledge all he has done for our country. But Democracy is facing an existential threat. We need someone younger to fight back. Joe Biden must step aside," Rob Reiner wrote in a post on X on July 10.
At the same time, in a letter to Democrats in Congress, 81-year-old Joe Biden said that he was "firmly committed" to his re-election campaign. Notably, several Democratic lawmakers also called on Biden to drop out of the presidential race.
