In a move to ensure equitable and transparent employment practices for domestic workers, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD) of Saudi Arabia has introduced an innovative initiative. The initiative focuses on improving the contractual relationship between employers and domestic workers, offering clarity and guidelines regarding the termination of employment in case of work interruption.

According to a statement released by the ministry, the initiative outlines specific procedures for unilaterally terminating the employment contract if a domestic worker discontinues work. Under the new initiative, if the employer decides to terminate the employment contract due to work interruption by the domestic worker within two years from the worker's entry into the Kingdom, it is mandated that the worker must leave the Kingdom within 60 days. For cases where the contract is terminated due to work interruption after two years, the domestic worker must either leave the Kingdom within 60 days or seek new employment with another employer.
