Indian men's hockey team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has been named as joint flag-bearer alongside shooter Manu Bhaker at the Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) made the announcement on this matter on Friday. The closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics is set to take place on August 11.

“Sreejesh has served Indian hockey in particular and Indian sport in general admirably through more than two decades,” IOA President Dr PT Usha said, adding that Sreejesh was both an emotional and popular choice within the IOA leadership. “I spoke with Neeraj Chopra and appreciate the spontaneity and grace with which he agreed that Sreejesh should be the flagbearer at the Closing Ceremony,” said PT Usha. Notably, badminton superstar PV Sindhu and table tennis ace Sharath Kamal were India's flagbearer at the opening ceremony.

PR Sreejesh, the 36-year-old hockey legend, retired from the sport following the bronze medal win in Paris Olympics. On the other hand, Manu Bhaker secured two medals at Paris, becoming the second Indian woman after PV Sindhu to win two Olympic medals.
