Tesla CEO Elon Musk Postpones India Visit
Elon Musk confirmed that he looks forward to visiting India later this year
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has postponed his visit to India. The Tesla chief was scheduled to visit the country on April 21 and 22 and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Earlier, there were reports that Elon Musk may announce an investment of $2–$3 billion in India.
Elon Musk, who also owns SpaceX, however confirmed that he looks forward to visiting India later this year. "Unfortunately, very heavy Tesla obligations require that the visit to India be delayed, but I do very much look forward to visiting later this year," wrote Elon Musk as a reply to a user on social media platform X on April 20. Earlier this month, the billionaire confirmed his proposed visit to India. In June 2023, Elon Musk met with PM Modi in the United States.
Tesla, the renowned electric vehicle manufacturer, has been reportedly planning to enter the Indian market. Meanwhile, the central government recently announced a plan that would allow automakers to import electric vehicles priced at $35,000 or higher every year at a reduced import duty of 15 percent. At the same time, EV manufacturers are required to invest a minimum of Rs 4,150 crore and set up local production facilities within three years to be eligible for the reduced import duty.
