Everything To Know About Facebook's New Friends Tab
The new update is part of Meta's broader effort to bring back features from Facebook's early days.

Meta has announced a major update to its popular platform, Facebook. The social media giant has introduced a new Facebook Friends tab that will only showcase updates from friends, without any other recommended content. Currently, the feature is available to users only in the United States and Canada.
"Formerly a place to view friend requests and People You May Know, the Friends tab will now show your friends’ stories, reels, posts, birthdays and friend requests," said the company in a blog post. Facebook is not the first Meta platform to introduce such a feature. In 2022, Instagram rolled out two feeds, 'Following' and 'Favorites'. While 'Following' shows users posts from the people they follow, 'Favorites' shows the latest from accounts that they choose, like best friends and favorite creators.
The new update is part of Meta's broader effort to bring back features from Facebook's early days. It mainly aims to attract younger crowd that has ignored the platform in favor of other social media apps. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said recently that a “return to OG Facebook” was part of his key goals for this year. “I think there are a lot of opportunities to make [Facebook] way more culturally influential than it is today. I think some of this will kind of get back to how Facebook was originally used back in the day," said the Meta CEO during the company’s Q4 earnings call, as quoted by TechCrunch.
