Hurricane Milton: Death Toll Rises To 14 In Florida

Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida, United States, as a Category 3 storm on Wednesday night. Multiple reports indicate that 14 people have been confirmed dead in the storm's aftermath. The storm made landfall barely two weeks after Hurricane Helene caused major damage across the south-eastern US.

After tearing across Florida, Hurricane Milton has weakened into a post-tropical cyclone, and its centre has moved away from the state into the Atlantic Ocean, reported the BBC. The report also mentioned that dozens of homes have been destroyed and nearly 3.4 million homes and businesses were without power by Thursday morning. Apart from Florida, the impact of the storm has also been felt in Georgia and South Carolina.

According to the Florida governor, 999 individuals and 105 animals have been rescued by Urban Search and Rescue Teams and the Florida National Guard since Hurricane Milton made landfall. According to a CNN report, Governor Ron DeSantis also said that 23 Urban Search and Rescue Teams comprised of more than 1,600 personnel are actively deployed across the state, along with the Florida National Guard.
