Abu Dhabi Adds 30 New Economic Activities To Freelancer Licence
The expansion allows UAE nationals and residents to pursue a wider range of business opportunities.
The Abu Dhabi Business Centre (ADBC) at the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has included 30 new activities to the freelancer licence. It is to be noted that the freelancer licence permits professionals to offer their specialised services to organisations, institutions, companies, and individuals.
The activities announced by the authorities include artificial intelligence (AI) development, electronic equipment and device systems and software design, oil and natural gas field production software design, and data classification and analysis services. Currently, the freelancer license includes 100 different activities. Applicants must have expertise in a particular field or industry as well as have achieved academic or professional success in that field, in order to be granted a license.

The expansion allows UAE nationals and residents to pursue a wider range of business opportunities. Mohammed Munif Al Mansouri, Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Business Centre (ADBC), said that the freelancer licence has witnessed a surge in interest over the past year. Mohammed Munif Al Mansouri also added that over 1,000 licences were issued in 2023 for various freelance activities.
