Abu Dhabi Unveils International Standard Carbon Measurement, Reporting, And Verification Programme
The system is designed to standardise and enhance the reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across Abu Dhabi’s industrial and energy sectors.
As part of measures towards addressing carbon emissions, Abu Dhabi has introduced an international standard carbon Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) programme. The MRV programme aims to enable accurate tracking of greenhouse gas emissions, laying the groundwork for a successful carbon pricing mechanism.
The system is designed to standardise and enhance the reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across Abu Dhabi’s industrial and energy sectors. According to Emirates News Agency, the MRV emissions programme will require the large carbon emitting facilities to monitor, report, and verify by third parties their emissions on an annual basis, with the first reports due in 2026. Notably, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) will be responsible for the implementation and administration of the MRV programme in the emirate.
