Al-Ahsa Governor Launches First Hydrogen-Powered Bus In Saudi Arabia
The bus has the capacity to travel up to 635 kilometers on a single charge and can accommodate 45 passengers.
Al-Ahsa Governor Prince Saud bin Talal bin Badr has inaugurated the trial of the first hydrogen-powered bus in Saudi Arabia. The launch of hydrogen-powered bus is a major step towards achieving Saudi Vision 2030, which focuses on environmental sustainability and encouraging eco-friendly technologies.
The bus has the capacity to travel up to 635 kilometers on a single charge and can accommodate 45 passengers. It will connect the city of Dammam with Al-Ahsa Governorate, covering a total distance of 359 kilometers daily as part of intercity transportation services. The bus trial is also part of Saudi Arabia's Transport General Authority's (TGA) efforts to support innovation and adopt sustainable transportation methods that help reduce carbon emissions, in alignment with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
The inauguration is part of a series of innovative projects launched by the TGA to strengthen transportation services in Saudi Arabia. Previously, the authority issued the first operational license for a hydrogen-powered train to the Saudi Railway Company (SAR) and launched the first public hydrogen-powered taxi in Jeddah.
