Riyadh: During the prestigious Global AI Summit (GAIN) held at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center, Aramco, one of the world’s foremost integrated energy and chemical companies, unveiled a series of groundbreaking digital initiatives. These initiatives are designed to propel the development and implementation of advanced digital solutions across its operations, reinforcing its role in the global tech landscape.

Ahmad Al-Khowaiter, Aramco’s EVP of Technology & Innovation, shared enthusiastic insights on the transformational potential of new technologies such as Generative AI and the Industrial Internet of Things. “These technologies promise to redefine not only our operational workflows but also our commercial ecosystem. Aramco is at the forefront, integrating these innovations on an industrial scale to leverage significant operational efficiencies and support the Kingdom's vision to position itself as a global AI pioneer,” he stated.

Advanced AI Computing Collaborations

At the summit, Aramco solidified its commitment through multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with tech innovators including Cerebras Systems and FuriosaAI, aimed at enhancing supercomputing and AI capabilities. Additionally, a cooperation with Rebellions to potentially integrate Neural Processing Unit chips within Aramco’s data centers marks a strategic move to bolster its digital framework and drive AI-centered innovations.

Another notable partnership with SambaNova Systems is set to expedite AI functionalities, fostering innovations and broader adoption across the Kingdom.

Further accelerating its tech-forward approach, Aramco announced the deployment of a cutting-edge AI supercomputer, among the first in the region. Equipped with powerful NVIDIA GPUs, this supercomputer is tailored to optimize complex tasks such as the analysis of drilling plans and geological data, substantially enhancing well-placement decisions.

AI on the Industrial Edge

In collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Aramco is initiating the deployment of industrial generative AI solutions on the edge. These advancements are aimed at refining facility monitoring, enhancing predictive maintenance, and integrating autonomous drones into operational processes.

Fostering Digital Innovation

These new initiatives are integral to Aramco’s strategic vision to integrate advanced digital solutions, building on earlier successes such as the Saudi Accelerated Innovation Lab (SAIL) and the Global AI Corridor. These platforms have catalyzed the development of Aramco’s inaugural large language model for industrial AI applications. Additionally, the launch of the Eye on AI Program underscores Aramco’s commitment to robust AI cybersecurity governance and skill development, keeping pace with the rapidly evolving technological landscape.

As Aramco continues to innovate within the digital and AI arenas, its initiatives at the Global AI Summit showcase a firm commitment to leveraging technology to fuel industrial growth and operational excellence, setting a global benchmark in the energy sector.
