With Rahul Dravid's contract expiring in June, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah recently said that they will be opening applications for a new Team India coach soon. Jay Shah also added on that occasion that if Dravid wishes to continue, he will have to reapply for the position. Rahul Dravid was appointed as the head coach in November 2021, and his tenure was extended after the conclusion of the 50-over World Cup in November 2023. Multiple reports suggest that BCCI is also considering foreign coaches, including Stephen Fleming and Ricky Ponting, as a possible successor to Dravid.
