Elon Musk’s X Resumes Operations In Brazil

Brazil's Supreme Court has lifted its ban on social media platform X. The top court said that the ban was lifted after the platform paid hefty fines and blocked accounts accused of spreading misinformation. X was suspended in the country on August 31, after an order from Justice Alexandre de Moraes that was upheld by a panel of other justices.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes prohibited X in the country after the company refused to comply with his order that included appointing a legal representative for the platform in Brazil. X has reportedly paid fines totalling $5.1 million and also agreed to appoint a local representative. The court also instructed Brazil's telecoms watchdog to ensure that service has resumed in the country within 24 hours, reported the BBC.

The statement also added that the platform will continue to defend freedom of speech within the boundaries of the law. Notably, the Latin American country is one of the biggest markets for Elon Musk's X, with an estimated 22 million users.
