The vertiport is anticipated to accommodate about 170,000 riders yearly, with a capacity of about 42,000 landings annually.
Sheikh Hamdan, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, gave the green light for the construction of the emirate's first aerial taxi vertiport. Situated near the Dubai International Airport (DXB), the vertiport is set to offer passengers a unique and comfortable mobility experience. The anticipated debut date of the aerial taxi service is Q1 2026.
The vertiport, which is 3,100 square meters in size, has areas set out for parking, aircraft charging, takeoff and landing, and a dedicated aerial taxi apron. The vertiport is anticipated to accommodate about 170,000 riders yearly, with a capacity of about 42,000 landings annually. The DXB vertiport is one of four initial locations, with three additional vertiports planned for development in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Downtown, and Dubai Marina.
In collaboration with leading international operators, Joby Aviation will manage aircraft manufacturing, operations, and passenger movement. The Joby S4 aerial taxi is an environmentally friendly, sustainable, emission-free electric vehicle that can take off and land vertically. With six rotors and four battery packs, the aerial taxi provides a maximum speed of 321 km/h and a flight range of up to 161 km. Moreover, the aerial taxi has a capacity to handle four passengers along with a pilot.
This service offers visitors and residents of Dubai a brand-new, quick, and safe way to go to key locations. For instance, it is estimated that the trip from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah will take only 12 minutes, as opposed to 45 minutes by car.
