'I Am Probably The Most Trolled Judge': CJI DY Chandrachud In Farewell Speech
CJI Chandrachud, who was sworn in as the 50th Chief Justice of India in 2022, demits office on November 10.
DY Chandrachud, the outgoing Chief Justice of India (CJI), said during a farewell event that he might perhaps be the most trolled judge, but that does not deter him and he respects his opponents. During the function organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association on Friday, the CJI noted the impact judges can have on ordinary lives, citing several recent cases.
“I'm probably one of the most trolled individuals and judges across the system…On a lighter vein, I am just wondering what will happen from Monday because all those who trolled me will be rendered unemployed!" said CJI Chandrachud, as quoted by LiveLaw. Meanwhile, CJI observed that the Supreme Court had traditionally been a “Chief Justice-centric Court,” a structure he felt needed reform. He also emphasized that the support of his colleagues and the Bar had been crucial.
CJI Chandrachud, who was sworn in as the 50th Chief Justice of India in 2022, demits office on November 10. He will be succeeded by Justice Sanjiv Khanna, currently the senior-most judge in the apex court. Justice Khanna will take charge on November 11.
