DP World and the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) have begun construction of a new logistics park at Jeddah Islamic Port. The SAR900 million ($250 million) project will provide state of the art storage and distribution facilities. This move is expected to make Saudi Arabia a major trade hub in the region.

The 415,000-square-meter greenfield facility comes with 185,000 square meters of warehousing space and a multipurpose storage yard. It is claimed to be the largest integrated logistics park in the Kingdom. The mega project will feature a capacity for more than 390,000 pallet positions to ensure the seamless flow of goods to and from Jeddah. The park will be developed in two phases, and it is expected to be operational by the second quarter of next year. The facility will also include a rooftop solar plant that will generate 20MW of renewable energy. The management of South Container Terminal is also included in the collaboration between the Saudi Ports Authority and DP World.

The facility will optimise the logistics processes for both importers and exporters and will serve as an integrated platform for trade and logistics. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, said that the logistics park is strategically located on the vital Asia-Europe shipping route and will deliver world-class multimodal connectivity and market access for customers.
