Kingdom of Bahrain to Host 3rd General Assembly of Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) in Manama, Bahrain
Riyadh: The Kingdom of Bahrain is set to host the 3rd General Assembly of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) in Manama, chaired by Mohammed bin Thamer Al Kaabi, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications of Bahrain and DCO Chair of the Council. The assembly, scheduled for January 31st, 2024, aims to discuss the organization's plans and initiatives in promoting digital prosperity globally, according to a press release from the DCO.
The General Assembly will be attended by ministers and officials representing the 15 member states of the DCO, along with Deemah AlYahya, the DCO's Secretary-General, and high-level delegations from partner countries, observers, guest countries, and international organizations. The meeting will focus on strategic initiatives to foster global digital cooperation, addressing the current state of the digital economy and exploring solutions to challenges hindering inclusive and sustainable growth in this vital sector.
Expressing his honor to host the event, Minister Mohammed Al Kaabi stated that the General Assembly will provide a platform to discuss achievements and launch new initiatives that aim to realize digital prosperity and growth. Emphasizing the importance of international collaboration, he expressed a commitment toward inclusive and sustainable digital transformation, ensuring that all countries benefit from digital opportunities and initiatives for economic development.
As a founding member of the DCO, the Kingdom of Bahrain remains committed to sharing its knowledge and expertise in economic growth. During Bahrain's 2023 presidency, the State of Qatar and the People's Republic of Bangladesh joined the DCO as new member states. Bahrain has actively participated in DCO activities and initiatives, including the Digital Prosperity Awards, which promote cooperation, innovation, and digital transformation across member states through digital innovation, transformation, and community empowerment.
Secretary-General AlYahya highlighted the significance of holding the General Assembly in Manama, emphasizing the essential role of digital cooperation in harnessing the benefits of the digital economy. She expressed anticipation in meeting representatives from member states, observers, partners, and guests, reviewing achievements from 2023 and shaping the organization's initiatives for 2024, aligning with the 2030 Strategic Roadmap.
In addition to presentations on the latest developments in the digital economy and significant DCO achievements, the General Assembly will delve into topics such as market growth and its impact, the strategic value of data, and building a sustainable digital economy to improve quality of life.
The assembly will also discuss the DCO's plan for 2024, its 2030 Strategic Roadmap, and present financial and administrative reports prepared by the organization's General Secretariat.
The previous DCO General Assembly took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on February 5th, 2023. The DCO consists of ministries of communications and information technology from 15 countries, including Bahrain, Bangladesh, Cyprus, Djibouti, Gambia, Ghana, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Rwanda, and Saudi Arabia. These member states represent over $3.3 trillion in GDP and a market of nearly 800 million people, with more than 70% of them under the age of 35.
