Midday Break: UAE To Provide 6,000 Rest Stations For Delivery Workers
The midday break, between 12.30 pm and 3 pm, will be implemented from June 15 to September 15
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) of the UAE announced that 6,000 rest stations will be provided to delivery service workers across the country during the midday break. This initiative is in collaboration with government entities and private sector companies. Delivery workers can locate these rest stations on an interactive map. The midday break, between 12.30 pm and 3 pm, will be implemented from June 15 to September 15.
According to MoHRE, this initiative is part of the Ministry’s efforts to ensure the health and safety of delivery service workers and provide them with a safe working environment. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Integrated Transport Centre in Abu Dhabi, departments of economic development across the UAE, as well as delivery companies including Talabat, Deliveroo, Noon, and Careem, are part of the project. Various restaurants, shopping centres and retail stores will also offer rest areas for delivery workers.
Earlier on May 31, the ministry said in a statement that authorities will monitor the level of compliance with the midday break among firms by conducting inspection tours. Companies found to be in violation will face fines of AED5,000 for each worker operating during the midday break hours and up to a maximum of AED50,000 for multiple workers. During the midday break, employers are required to provide parasols and shaded areas for workers. Adequate cooling devices and sufficient cold drinking water should also be provided to workers.
