Riyadh: The Ministry of Commerce has taken action against six commercial establishments operating in the perfume sector for violating the provisions of the Competition Law. Legal procedures have been completed against these establishments, and they will now be referred to the appropriate authorities for their infringement of the terms and conditions stipulated in the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law.

Recently, the ministry had also summoned nine establishments for their involvement in organizing prize-based lotteries. These firms were found to be organizing retail prize draws where consumers were required to make purchases to participate in the contest. The prizes announced included private aircraft, camels, luxury cars, residential villas, gold sets, and smartphones.

Regarding the violations committed in the perfume sector during the holy month of Ramadan, the ministry stated that six establishments had breached the prerequisites for organizing competitions. These establishments publicized lottery draws through their online stores and social media platforms. The ministry identified the violations committed by each establishment and confirmed the completion of legal procedures against them. All six firms were found to have organized lottery prize draws with the condition of purchasing goods as a prerequisite for participation in the contest.

The first establishment announced a competition with lottery prize draws featuring camels, cars, and gold sets. The second firm organized a competition with prizes such as private planes, while the third firm offered prizes including cars and smartphones.

The fourth establishment announced a competition solely for cars and misled consumers by falsely claiming that it was being conducted under the supervision of the Ministry of Commerce.

The fifth firm, located in the Makkah region, conducted an unlicensed commercial competition and presented a car as a prize without specifying the end date or the date of the draw. The ministry also highlighted that the sixth establishment announced a competition with prizes such as a residential villa and luxury cars.

The Ministry of Commerce's decisive action against these violations further reinforces its commitment to upholding fair competition and protecting consumers' rights.
