Saudi Jawazat Officially Announces Expats on Reentry Visa Can Return to Saudi Arabia

Riyadh - The Saudi General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) has confirmed that expatriates who left the Kingdom on an exit and reentry visa but were unable to return can now come back either on a new visa or under their last sponsor. This decision effectively cancels the previous restriction that prevented expatriates from returning if they did not come back during the validity period of their visa, except after three years had passed.

The branches of passport offices, airports, airlines, shift heads, navigators, shipping companies, and transit halls have been informed about the immediate implementation of this decision.

Experts highlight that this decision is part of ongoing efforts aimed at improving the investment and labor environment in Saudi Arabia.

It is important to note that certain conditions must be met when obtaining an exit and reentry visa. These include having a fingerprint record for the individual receiving the visa, payment of all traffic violations imposed by the worker, absence of any violations or valid visas for the worker. Additionally, workers' passports must have a validity period of 90 days or more.

In response to inquiries on Jawazath's Q&A page regarding expired visas while outside the Kingdom and returning with new work visas or using services from previous employers versus new employers; Jawazath confirms that those who left and did not return can indeed come back with a new visa if they wish. Furthermore, individuals with expired exit and reentry visas can return either under their previous employer's services or with a new employer's services. Additionally addressed is extending visas for private drivers outside the Kingdom whose return was delayed due to various circumstances; it is possible to extend such visas through Absher platform's communication service as long as passport validity remains no less than 90 days and the resident ID is valid.

This decision by Jawazat provides much-needed flexibility for expatriates who faced challenges in returning to Saudi Arabia due to unforeseen circumstances. It reflects the Kingdom's commitment to improving the labor environment and ensuring a smooth transition for expatriate workers.
