Saudi Arabia Introduces Online Passport Update Service For Expats Via Absher
The service, priced at SR69 (including VAT), streamlines the process for employers and foreign workers.

Riyadh: Expatriates in Saudi Arabia can now update their passport information digitally through their employer’s Absher account, eliminating the need for in-person visits to the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat). The service, priced at SR69 (including VAT), streamlines the process for employers and foreign workers.
Who Can Use the Service?
Expats aged 18 and above after passport renewal. Only one update per worker every five years. If the expat holds multiple passports, a physical visit to Jawazat is required.
How to Update Passport Details on Absher?
Log in to Absher via the employer’s account.
Go to "My Services" → "Passports" → "Resident Identity Services".
Upload a clear photo of the new passport (the system auto-reads the passport number & expiry date).
Accept a digital pledge confirming:
The old passport is not lost or reported missing.
No "absence from work" report against the worker.
No traffic violations linked to the Iqama.
No security restrictions on employer or employee.
Both parties are alive and legally compliant.
Exceptions Requiring Jawazat Visit
If the previous passport is lost (fraudulent use will lead to penalties).
If family members’ passports are linked to the old document.
For second passport holders.
Key Conditions & Warnings
The employer/responsible person must ensure the uploaded passport is valid and authentic.
False submissions may result in legal action.
The service does not apply if the old passport had dependants who later obtained new passports.
This digital upgrade is part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to enhance expat services and reduce bureaucratic hurdles. Employers are urged to verify all details before submission to avoid penalties.
