During a concession speech in Washington, D.C., Kamala Harris has urged her supporters to accept Donald Trump's White House victory. The defeated Democratic candidate also told the crowd not to despair but to remain vigilant in the fight to protect American democracy. Kamala Harris delivered the speech after Donald Trump surged past the 270 votes needed to win the electoral college.

"The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for. But hear me when I say, hear me when I say, the light of America's promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting," said Kamala Harris while addressing a crowd of supporters, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, from Howard University in Washington, D.C. Kamala Harris also expressed gratitude to her family, US President Joe Biden, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and her campaign staff.

The US Vice President said that the results of the election must be accepted and added she had spoken with Donald Trump and is committed to a peaceful transfer of power. “Do not despair. This is not a time to throw up our hands. This is a time to roll up our sleeves. This is a time to organize, to mobilize and to stay engaged for the sake of freedom and justice and the future that we all know we can build together," Harris added. Meanwhile, as the vice president of the country, Kamala Harris will play the ceremonial role of president of the Senate during the certification of Trump’s victory, which will be held in January.
