Third Edition Of Saudi Games To Commence In Riyadh Today

The third edition of the Saudi Games will commence today in Riyadh. Athletes will compete in 52 individual and team sports, including 7 Paralympic sports, 10 demonstration sports, and 15 youth sports. Earlier, the torch of the Saudi Games 2024 has returned to Riyadh after a 30-day journey across the regions of Saudi Arabia, covering over 3,500 kilometers.

The Saudi Games, which until 17th October, is the largest national sporting event in the country's history. Athletes participating in the games will compete for prizes totaling SAR200 million. Gold medalists will receive SAR1 million, silver medalists SAR300,000, and bronze medalists SAR100,000. In the youth category, gold medalists will receive SAR100,000.

The event significantly impact the sports system in the country. The previous edition of Saudi Games generated nearly $SAR750 million in economic activity, with a total prize money exceeding SAR260 million, reported Saudi Press Agency. Moreover, the event also led to the creation of 478 jobs, with a total workforce exceeding 4,950.
