WhatsApp Unveils User Tagging In Status Updates
Apart from user tagging, WhatsApp also introduced the 'Status likes' feature, in which users can like their contact's status updates with a single tap.
Meta-owned WhatsApp has unveiled a new feature that allows users to tag other people in their status updates. Similar to Instagram Stories, the new tagging feature enables users to mention up to five other WhatsApp accounts in their status updates. With the new update, the messaging platform aims to make it easier for users to connect with friends and family.
When tagged, the users will receive a private notification and have the option to repost the status. "Those you mention will be notified privately, and the mention won’t be shown on your status," added WhatsApp in a blog post while announcing the new feature. The platform also mentioned that the latest features will be available globally to users soon.
Apart from user tagging, WhatsApp also introduced the 'Status likes' feature, in which users can like their contact's status updates with a single tap and the heart emoji. Notably, status likes are private and do not have a counter. Only the person who shared the status will be able to see who has liked it in the list of viewers. Meanwhile, WhatsApp is planning to bring more features to Status and the Updates tab over the next few months.
