GPT-4o, OpenAI's New Flagship Generative AI Model
OpenAI's new AI model comes a day before Google's highly anticipated annual developer conference
ChatGPT maker OpenAI has unveiled a new AI model called GPT-4o. The GPT-4o, where “o” stands for “omni, accepts as input any combination of text, audio, and image and generates any combination of text, audio, and image outputs. The AI giant also claimed that the GPT-4o is better at vision and audio understanding compared to existing models. Notably, OpenAI's new AI model comes a day before Google's highly anticipated annual developer conference.
Microsoft backed OpenAI said in a blog post that the latest AI model achieves GPT-4 Turbo-level performance on text, reasoning, and coding intelligence while setting new high watermarks on multilingual, audio, and vision capabilities. GPT-4o is also claimed to be "much better than any existing model" at understanding and discussing the images shared by the user. The AI model's language capabilities are also improved across quality and speed. ChatGPT also now supports more than 50 languages across sign-up, login, and user settings.
OpenAI will roll out the GPT-4o to ChatGPT Free with usage limits. The company is also beginning to roll out GPT-4o to ChatGPT Plus and Team users. It is worth mentioning that Plus users will have a message limit that is up to "5x greater" than free users, and Team and Enterprise users will have even higher limits. OpenAI is also launching a new ChatGPT desktop app for macOS for both free and paid users. "We're rolling out the macOS app to Plus users starting today, and we will make it more broadly available in the coming weeks," added the company in the blog post released on May 13.
