WWDC 2024: Apple Announces Partnership With OpenAI
ChatGPT will be available in Apple’s systemwide Writing Tools, to help users generate content for anything they are writing about
Apple has finally announced its partnership with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. The iPhone maker made this long-awaited announcement at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on Monday. Apple will integrate ChatGPT into iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, allowing users to access ChatGPT’s capabilities.
ChatGPT is scheduled to arrive in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia later this year. The main highlight is that users can access it for free without creating an account. ChatGPT will be available in Apple’s systemwide Writing Tools, to help users generate content for anything they are writing about. Users will also be able to tap into ChatGPT image tools to generate images in a wide variety of styles to complement what they are writing. "Siri can also tap into ChatGPT’s intelligence when helpful. Apple users are asked before any questions are sent to ChatGPT, along with any documents or photos, and Siri then presents the answer directly," added Apple in its statement.
The tech giant has also unveiled Apple Intelligence, the personal intelligence system for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. "Apple Intelligence will transform what users can do with our products and what our products can do for our users,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. At the same time, billionaire Elon Musk said that he would ban Apple devices at his companies if Apple integrates OpenAI at the operating system level. In a post on X, Elon Musk said that the integration is an "unacceptable security violation."
