Abu Dhabi International Book Fair: Panellists Discuss Impact Of AI In Publishing

The 33rd Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF), organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, kicked off on Monday. The latest trends in the publishing industry also took centre stage as a panel discussion titled "Artificial Intelligence in International Publishing" was held during the event.

The session featured Fareed Zahran, President of the Egyptian Publishers Association, and Jose Borghino, Secretary-General of the International Publishers Association (IPA). The panellists discussed the role of artificial intelligence in the writing, printing, and publishing processes. During the session, Jose Borghino underlined that innovation, creativity, and literature in all its forms are results of human effort and emphasised the fact that writing is a reflection of the author’s own experiences.

"AI may replace academic books, as it can provide as much as 90% of the information, but it does not exceed 70% data in the world of novels," said Fareed Zahran, as quoted by Emirates News Agency. He also explained that there has been growing interest in artificial intelligence since the invention of the computer. 

Meanwhile, the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2024 is hosting 1350 publishers from 90 countries. The prestigious event offers the audience a diverse set of activities and cultural events. The diverse cultural programme aims to enrich the experience for readers and visitors, solidifying the event as a global intellectual and cultural hub.
