The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has instructed all licensed businesses in the emirate to follow the guidelines when contracting with social media influencers. In a circular, ADDED said that social media influencers are required to obtain a license from the department to practice the activity of advertising services through websites.

According to the Emirates News Agency report, the economic establishments must obtain a permit from the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development when carrying out any type of advertisement. Economic establishments must also ensure that they have a valid license issued by the department when contracting with social networking sites and influencers. As per the report, non-compliance with these rules will result in substantial penalties, ranging from AED3,000 to AED10,000.

Moreover, non-compliance with the controls and requirements when contracting with social media influencers will also expose the economic establishment to closure. ADDED has also appreciated the efforts of all licensed economic establishments to promote and create an ideal economic environment for business in the emirate.
