Nissan And Honda Officially Begin Merger Talks
Mitsubishi will also participate in the discussions
Japanese automakers Honda and Nissan officially announced they had entered into official talks to merge. Notably, automaker Mitsubishi will also participate in the discussions. Nissan and Honda are looking to reach a conclusion in talks by the end of January next year. If this deal is finalized, it would create the world's third-largest automaker by sales.
Both the companies have also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to start discussions and considerations toward a business integration. "The MOU between Nissan and Honda announced today is aimed to serve as an option to maintain global competitiveness and for the two companies to continue to deliver more attractive products and services to customers worldwide," said Nissan in a statement released on Monday.
Nissan and Honda plan to establish a joint holding company that will be the parent company of both companies. Shares of the newly established joint holding company under consideration are planned to be newly listed on the Prime Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The listing is scheduled for August 2026. Meanwhile, this historic merger would mark the biggest reshaping in the global auto industry.
