Dubai’s private higher education sector, which is licensed and regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), has reported record growth in the 2023–24 academic year. As per the latest data released by KHDA, a record 12 percent growth has been reported in student enrolment since the last year.

As per the infographic released by the regulatory body recently, the total number of students currently enrolled in private higher education institutions in Dubai is 34,893 students. KHDA data also indicate that there is a 25 percent surge in international student enrolment. It is to be noted that international students now comprise one-third of the total student body in Dubai’s private universities.

Moreover, five new international universities were inaugurated in Dubai during the 2023–24 academic year. With this, the total number of higher education providers licensed by KHDA increased to 38.

"The record growth in student enrolment in Dubai’s private higher education sector aligns with the goal of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, to make the city a leading global hub for higher education," said Aisha Miran, Director-General of KHDA, as quoted by Emirates News Agency. Aisha Miran also reportedly said that the surge in international student enrolment particularly reflects Dubai's position as a preferred choice for students seeking quality education opportunities.
